DownloadElementary Vocabulary Games is a great resource book for teachers to provide elementary students with practice of vocabulary. The book consists of a collection of photocopiable vocabulary games and activities divided into thirty topic areas, which are normally taught to elementary level such as family members, jobs, colors, clothes, hobbies, sports, household objects, etc. Teachers’ notes are also provided to help teachers manage the games and activities.
The games applies various techniques, namely information gap, guessing games, search games, matching-up games, exchanging and collecting games, combining games, arranging games, card games, board games, puzzles, and role-play.
Each game includes three stages: memorizing, personalizing, and communicating. Memorizing stage focuses on students’ accuracy of word production with its correct meaning. The second stage is designed to get students to relate the new words to their personal experience. Communicating stage requires students’ flexibility and creativity to solve a goal such as finding a person, solving a puzzle, or completing a drawing. In this stage, students are given opportunities to use the new words to communicate with others.
Elementary Vocabulary Games is a very good reference book for teachers to teach vocabulary.
